The intensity of living, studying and working in the densely layered historical center of the Eternal City makes for a life-changing educational experience. Since its mythical beginnings 2,762 years ago, Rome has been the center of a continually evolving empire. It is the largest archaeological site in the world, and a leading producer of contemporary art and architecture. It is at once a small town and a vibrant, cosmopolitan city with nearly five million residents.

The American Institute for Roman Culture’s is headquartered in the heart of Rome's historical center.  Teaching facilities include meeting and seminar rooms; WiFi hotspots and computer stations and a rich and growing library of publications on the Ancient City's archaeology, architecture, art and history.  Administrative offices are located in the ACCENT International study center in the historic Campo Marzo district, the heart of the Renaissance and Baroque city .

Students enrolled in the Institute’s academic programs also have access to studio and classroom spaces in various nearby venues—from foreign institutes to private palaces.
